Damaris Muriithi is the founder of Dama Mobile Spares, a thriving repair shop and distributor of mobile phone spare parts located in Nairobi County. Her journey to success has been built on determination, hard work, and a deep passion for her work.
Initially, Damaris had no plans of becoming a business owner. Her dream was to become a teacher. However, life took her in a different direction. After finishing high school, Damaris moved to Kirinyaga, where her aunt helped her secure a job selling mobile phone scratch cards, earning Ksh 1,500.
Her next move was to Nairobi, where she worked at a mobile phone accessories shop on Luthuli Avenue. Unfortunately, the business struggled, and Damaris had to explore other opportunities. She eventually landed a position at another mobile phone accessory shop on Munyi Road, where she began to develop a strong interest in the business.
As she grew more passionate about the industry, Damaris took the time to learn everything she could—studying suppliers, understanding importing processes, and analyzing profit margins. During this period, she gained invaluable experience and saved money.
In 2016, Damaris made a bold decision to leave her job and pursue her entrepreneurial dreams. The early days of her business were challenging due to limited stock and a reliance on local suppliers. Nevertheless, she focused on providing excellent customer service while keeping profit margins small to build trust and loyalty.
Her perseverance paid off, and within six months, she was able to open a second branch. Today, Damaris is the proud owner of five branches of Dama Mobile Spares across Nairobi County, employing over 100 people. She has also expanded her reach by launching an e-commerce platform, enabling customers from outside Nairobi to order mobile phone spares.
Damaris credits her success to her relentless work ethic, determination, and adaptability in the face of challenges. She is grateful for the support she received throughout her journey and continues to oversee her business operations with efficiency.
