Comedian Kendrick Mulamwah and his partner, Ruth K, have recently addressed misconceptions regarding their relationship status. Despite a grand celebration last year that many mistook for a wedding, the couple has clarified that they are not officially married.
In October 2023, the couple hosted a lively event that was widely interpreted as a wedding or ruracio (a traditional dowry ceremony) due to its festive atmosphere. However, Ruth K has since explained that the occasion was actually an introduction ceremony, which is a step leading up to a traditional wedding.
Influencing Factors
The decision to delay a traditional wedding stemmed from unexpected circumstances. Ruth K disclosed that she was pregnant at the time they initially planned to hold the wedding, which created challenges for the customary dowry payment ceremony. In some Kenyan communities, it is culturally inappropriate for a pregnant woman to participate in this ritual.
Consequently, Mulamwah and Ruth K chose to hold the introduction ceremony as a way to formally introduce their families to each other. This event took place two weeks after their originally planned wedding date.
In the meantime, Mulamwah has also been working to strengthen his relationship with his daughter from a previous relationship. He recently spent quality time with her at the home of her mother, Carol Sonnie. This visit marks a positive step forward in their co-parenting journey after a period of estrangement.
