A man identified as Mwangi-not his real name 40-year-old from Nyeri County warned other
men to well know their marriage partners before deciding to be in marriage with them. As he
said, when he met his wife, she was not a drunkard but after being into marriage for three
years, she sank into serious alcohol consumption.
As he narrated, she had a decent job at a
government office but no employer would sustain keep an alcoholic woman to his office and so
she was sacked. He says he had been living in shame as he even did not like telling people that
he had got two children with such a woman.
“I was now the father and the mother to our children back home. I would prepare them to go to
school and do all house chores as my wife’s addiction would not allow her to. She turned to be a
thief in the house as she would even still the little money I had been keeping in the house, just to
satisfy her alcohol addiction,” he said.
Their children always recognized her as their mum. He says he still valued her and hoped that
one day she changed and became a decent woman she had known a long time ago as they
were getting in marriage. At times she would even sleep outside their house and as a woman it
was risky. Mwangi says through his longtime friend y he was told of a herbalist by the name Dr
