Charity Mwamba Reveals Citizen TV’s ‘Mother in Law’ Show Has Never Given Her A Contract

Actress Elizabeth Wanjiru, also known as Charity Mwamba, has graced the screens of the popular television program for over a decade, portraying the significant role of a mother-in-law. Transitioning from her career as a teacher, Elizabeth embarked on her professional acting journey in 1997, participating in various television shows before landing a pivotal role on Citizen television.

In a recent interview with Hiram Maina ‘Kamuhunjia,’ Elizabeth opened up about her experiences on Mother-In-Law, expressing candidly that she felt undervalued by her employer, Royal Media Services. Her discontentment arose from the absence of a formal contract during her tenure.

Elizabeth articulated her dissatisfaction, stating, “I wasn’t pleased with how my appointment was handled. Being an educated Kenyan, I prefer not to work without a formal letter of appointment. The appointment process lacked clarity.”

Addressing the issue, she suggested that the program should streamline its operational processes. Reflecting on her initial excitement at securing the role without facing stiff competition during auditions, Elizabeth admitted, “I could have insisted on certain conditions, but it wasn’t straightforward. I decided, ‘Okay, let me find something to do.’ However, after 14 years on the show, I expected someone would consider offering me a contract.”

Highlighting a significant drawback for performing artists without contracts, Elizabeth pointed out the unpredictable nature of their remuneration. Stressing the importance of recognition and stability after years of dedicated service, she expressed disappointment that a formal contract had not been extended to her.
