In a remarkable event that made headlines on September 10, 2023, businessman Ssaalongo Nsikonenne Habib Ssezzigu tied the knot with not one, but seven wives simultaneously in the picturesque Bugereka village, nestled in Mukono district, Uganda.
What makes this union particularly unique is the fact that two of these brides are biological sisters. The day’s festivities kicked off at 8 a.m. as the brides were treated to luxurious salon sessions before being transported in custom vans bearing their names.
The exchange of vows was nothing short of grandeur, marked by a lavish procession that wove its way through Kalagi, Kasana, and Nakifuma. The procession, led by boda boda cyclists, culminated in a joyous arrival at the family’s home at 6 p.m., greeted by an exuberant crowd.
The wedding itself commenced with a celebratory concert that left onlookers in awe of the unprecedented spectacle unfolding before their eyes. Each of the brides, namely Mariam, Madinah, Aisha, Zainabu, Fatuma, Rashida, and Musanyusa (Habib’s first wife of seven years), was generously gifted with brand-new cars.
At the reception, meticulous seating arrangements were made to ensure that the day remained organized and memorable. Habib took a moment to express his gratitude and underscore the harmonious relationships among his wives, emphasizing the unity that defines their life together as one big, happy family.
As for the future, Habib hinted at the possibility of expanding his family even further, owing to his youth. Hajj Abdul Ssemakula, the groom’s father, pointed out the longstanding tradition of polygamy within the family, tracing it back to his grandfather’s six wives, each separated by curtains within a single house.
This historic event has not only made waves locally but also set a record for simultaneous marriages in Uganda, ensuring that September 10, 2023, will be a day forever etched in the annals of history.
