Brian Chira, a controversial figure on TikTok, has been drawing attention to the potential income one can generate from the platform, based on his own experiences.
Despite TikTok often being viewed as a mere pastime, Chira claims to earn approximately Ksh100,000 by going live on the app. He frequently goes live during the early hours of the day and notes that the majority of his fans are located overseas.
During a recent interview with YouTuber Eve Mungai, Chira expressed, “I make roughly KSh100,000 when I go live on TikTok. Kenyans are wealthy, and people from other countries are financially well-off. Most of the individuals who join my live videos are based abroad.” This newfound fame on the app has brought significant positive changes to Chira’s life, allowing him to support his grandmother and orphaned cousins.

Chira shared, “Life has changed for the better. I am saving as much as I can. I am currently the sole provider for my grandmother and my orphaned cousins. Life has been good.” He emphasized his role as the breadwinner and the positive impact TikTok has had on his ability to provide for his family.

In a video shared on his TikTok account, Chira stated, “Naitwa Chira Brian Chira, Andrew Kibe, it’s only you I’m attracted to because of your beard. Oh my God, it’s incredible! Come on, give these lips a kiss.” This declaration sparked headlines and drew further attention to Chira’s presence on the platform.

Recent research conducted by the Reuters Institute reveals that Kenya leads the world in TikTok usage, with an astonishing 54% of users engaging with the app for various purposes, including 29% who rely on it for news consumption. Thailand follows closely in second place, while South Africa ranks third, with 50% of users engaging with TikTok for general content and 22% using it as a source of news.
