In Nyeri County’s Mjengo area, a woman recently filed for divorce from her newlywed husband, citing an unusual reason, according to local reports.
The housewife and mother of three requested the dissolution of her marriage, explaining that she was unable to cope with her husband’s unusually large genitalia, commonly referred to locally as “mjulus.” The divorce was quickly granted within a week, in line with Kenyan law, acknowledging the short-lived nature of their union.
The woman said she entered the marriage after her previous relationship ended. Following local tradition, she initially moved into her husband’s family home before relocating to their shared residence. However, after their first intimate encounter, she reportedly experienced severe discomfort.
In court, she stated, “It’s strange; I can no longer find pleasure with him. His mjulus is unbearable, too large for me. I cannot continue with this.” The court approved the divorce, giving relief to the husband.
After the first encounter, the woman sought advice from her mother, who urged her to persevere and even provided medication to ease the discomfort. Despite attempting intimacy again, she described it as “too much, too painful.” The couple ultimately agreed to end the marriage, as no remedy seemed to improve the situation.
The husband did not contest the claim and reportedly requested only that his dowry and the expenses incurred during their courtship be reimbursed before the divorce was finalized.
