One of Kenya’s most renowned journalists and the CEO of Chams Media Group, Alex Chamwada, has recently opened up about his challenging journey before establishing his own media company.
Chamwada, who has worked with several prominent media houses in Kenya, including Citizen TV, reached a point where he felt the need to move on. He wanted more control over his stories and the freedom to pursue his own journalistic interests. The predictability of the media cycle had begun to feel monotonous, leading him to resign from Citizen TV in 2014 and focus on starting his own venture, Chams Media.
At the time of his departure, Chamwada was financially strained and deeply in debt. The financial strain was due to the extensive medical expenses incurred while trying to save his father, who unfortunately passed away despite their efforts. Despite the well-paying position at Citizen TV and his high-profile international reporting, the cost of his father’s treatment left him financially depleted.
Chamwada, acknowledging his vulnerability, revealed that despite public perceptions of his financial stability, he had no savings left. In fact, he had to sell his house to fund the start of Chams Media, using only a phone and a laptop to get started.
Fortunately, KTN News offered him a platform to showcase his program, which marked the beginning of his recovery and growth. Through persistence and strategic moves, Chamwada was able to secure a spot on national television and commercialize his content independently. His program, “Daring Abroad,” which airs on NTV as of 2024, is a testament to his success.
Today, Chams Media is a prominent media house in Kenya and has gained international recognition. Alex Chamwada’s journey from financial hardship to achieving his dreams serves as an inspiring story of resilience and determination. Congratulations to Alex Chamwada on his remarkable achievements.
