Nairobi County officials, led by Health CEC Susan Silantoi, conducted a raid on Freemasons Hall along Nyerere Road on Wednesday due to an outstanding land rates debt amounting to Sh19 million.
The enforcement was part of a wider county operation aimed at recovering unpaid land rates. The county’s revenue department is working to collect approximately Sh10 billion in the next two months from defaulters, out of a total debt of Sh50 billion owed to Nairobi City County.
Speaking during the operation, Mr. Njoroge from the revenue department stated that the county will take strict action this year against property owners who have failed to pay despite being given a waiver period.
“We are here to begin our enforcement activities. This specific property—plot number 209—owes the county around Sh4 million. We will place a notice on the building declaring that it belongs to Nairobi City County until the outstanding amount is fully settled,” Mr. Njoroge said.
