Charles Ong’ondo: MP’s Final Post Before His Sudden Death Moves Kenyans

Kenyans are mourning the untimely death of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, whose last social media post has left many heartbroken.

The legislator tragically lost his life on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, in Nairobi. The incident occurred near the City Mortuary roundabout under circumstances that are still under investigation.

Ong’ondo’s Last Message

Just a day before the tragedy, Ong’ondo shared a powerful video and photo on his social media platforms. In the video, he was seen in high spirits, leading a group of enthusiastic ODM supporters. Dressed in party colors, they chanted slogans in unity.

“Largest party in East and Central Africa,” Ong’ondo declared proudly in the video, showing his commitment to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He also posted a heartfelt message after attending the burial of Joel Abach, a longtime supporter and ODM official in Katanga. In his tribute, the MP praised Abach as a pillar of strength and leadership.

“His loyalty, wisdom, and tireless service will always be remembered,” the MP wrote.
“On behalf of my team and myself, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire Katanga community.”

The post, now filled with messages of grief, has become a memorial space for his followers.

Public Reaction

Kenyans flooded the comment section with emotional tributes:

  • Clifford Otieno: “The reality of life.”
  • Mark Denvan: “In a nation that prides itself on democracy, such acts leave us shaken.”
  • Joash Cushite: “Who has done this to our leader?”
  • Muliro Webi: “Rest in peace. Justice must prevail.”

Concerns About His Safety

Reports have emerged suggesting that the MP had earlier expressed concerns about his security. Around two months ago, Ong’ondo spoke publicly about rising tensions in his constituency. He pointed fingers at external forces he claimed were stirring unrest and called out local security officials for their silence after a disrupted funeral event.

He had warned that without proper intervention, the situation could worsen. His concerns now appear even more troubling in light of recent events.
