3 family members die in Homa Bay after electrocution from clothesline

Tragedy has struck Nyatwere Village in North Kachien Location, Homa Bay County, as three members of a family met their untimely demise in a horrifying electrocution accident.

Lavender Otieno, aged 30, lost her life in a fatal electrocution incident while attempting to retrieve clothes from a clothesline that was still carrying live current.

In a harrowing turn of events, Lavender’s brothers-in-law, Elijah Ochieng, 31, and Isaiah Onyango, 35, also fell victim to the lethal electric current while attempting to rescue her.

The community, along with the area chief, Jacob Adienge, and grieving family members, attribute this tragic incident to the negligence of an unqualified individual who was entrusted with the task of connecting electricity to Lavender’s residence.

The unlicensed electrician responsible for the fatal wiring remains at large, leaving the community to grapple with the profound consequences of this preventable accident.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the authorities indicate that the electrical connection at Lavender’s house was carried out by an individual from the village lacking the necessary expertise in handling electrical systems.

In light of this devastating event, the administrator issues a heartfelt plea to the public, urging them to refrain from hiring unqualified electricians for any electrical work. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of engaging certified professionals with the requisite skills and licenses for such critical tasks.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been transported to the mortuary at Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital, adding another layer of sorrow to this already heart-wrenching situation.
