On Friday, 21 July, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed strong displeasure following an alleged police raid at his son Jomo’s residence in Karen, Kenya. The purpose of the search was to look for firearms and other weapons, leaving Uhuru perplexed and raising questions about the government’s motives.
Uhuru addressed the media in Karen, confirming the raid and expressing his frustration, saying, “I find myself in a situation where my son’s home is being searched for reasons that escape me. I wonder, what is the government trying to achieve? If they are after me, my silence shouldn’t be mistaken for fear. They can come for me directly. But why involve my mother and children? What have they got to do with any of this?”
This incident has triggered public concern and curiosity, leading people to take a closer look at Jomo Kenyatta, the son of Uhuru Kenyatta.
Jomo Kenyatta is married to Fiona Achola Ngobi, a descendant of the late Luo political figure, Dr. William Odongo Omamo. They exchanged vows in a traditional Kikuyu wedding ceremony at Fiona’s parents’ home in Nairobi’s Karen estate on October 22. The couple has two children together – Baby Uhuru, who was born on May 27, 2020, at Nairobi Hospital, and a daughter named after the former First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, born in November 2017 at Aga Khan Hospital.
During his father’s presidency, Jomo Kenyatta was often seen attending various political events, notably accompanying his father during the historic visits of former US President Barack Obama to Kenya in July 2015 and Pope Francis in November of the same year.
These appearances provided Jomo with opportunities to interact with prominent international figures during his father’s time as head of state. He also actively participated in political campaigns alongside President William Ruto when he served as an aide to his father, the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, in recent times, Jomo Kenyatta’s public engagements have been relatively limited. His most recent appearance was in September 2022 when he visited Raila Odinga at his Karen home, just three days after the Supreme Court upheld President William Ruto’s victory.
