Zabron Ndale: “Yesu ni Mzabibu” hitmaker who is broke despite fame

In recent days, the Kenyan social media landscape has been inundated with energetic dance performances set to the tune of the song ‘Mimi ni Mzabibu’.

This captivating song, which translates to “I am the vine, Father is the farmer,” has resonated deeply with many Kenyans, swiftly gaining viral popularity. Social media enthusiasts, spanning from celebrities to the political class, have infused their platforms, particularly TikTok, with lively dance routines set to the infectious melody.

As the Mzabibu Challenge continues to captivate social media, numerous netizens are showcasing their dance skills, providing a myriad of interpretations that result in a flood of entertaining and visually striking videos.

Little known to many, the mastermind behind the Mimi ni Mzabibu song is Zabron Ndale, a musical talent from the Mijikenda community who crafted the song in 2014.

In a recent interview, Zabron Ndale expressed gratitude for the song’s resurgence, attributing his success to the grace of God. He asserted his rightful ownership of the song, emphasizing that the inspiration for the song comes from the book of John 15.

“It is just the grace of God. I released the song in 2014. The song comes from the book of John 15, and that is where the inspiration comes from. I hold all the rights to this song. The song has attracted styles that I never imagined,” Zabron Ndale said.

Addressing the humorous dance moves by Kenyans to the song, Zabron Ndale revealed plans to release an official music video to guide people on the correct dance moves. He remarked, “The styles make you wonder if this is a gospel song. They are doing it for fun, but, for me, it is a serious song even though it is still in audio. I will release a video of the song so that people can stop dancing those funny moves.”

Reflecting on the dynamics of his musical journey, Zabron Ndale expressed a desire to create more songs but highlighted financial constraints as a major hindrance. He urged well-wishers to support him, stating, “I attend events to perform my songs, but if anyone can support me in releasing more songs, I will be grateful.”
