Siaya Senator and ODM Party leader Oburu Odinga has dismissed critics questioning his continued leadership in the Orange Democratic Movement, saying age should not be used to define political capability or relevance.
Speaking during a public event, Oburu said, “Wengine wanasema ati mbona nimechukua ODM na mimi miaka zangu zimeenda. Nataka niwaambie kwamba, ODM ni chama cha vijana na maGen Z kama mimi!”
His statement, which drew laughter from the crowd, was seen as both humorous and symbolic — emphasizing unity and continuity within the ODM Party despite generational differences.
Oburu explained that the strength of ODM lies in its ability to blend experience with youthful energy. He noted that while he may represent the older generation, his leadership aims to empower young people and ensure they play an active role in shaping the future of the party.
Political observers say Oburu’s remarks come at a time when ODM is undergoing internal restructuring to attract more young voters ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party has been reaching out to Gen Z and millennial supporters through youth-centered programs, digital engagement, and leadership training initiatives.
Oburu’s lighthearted comment underscored his belief that political leadership transcends age, and that both the young and old have a shared responsibility in driving Kenya’s democratic journey forward.
