Comedian and content creator Oga Obinna has voiced his strong disapproval of fellow comedian Mulamwah’s decision to invest a substantial sum of money in the construction of a lavish mansion in their hometown, while he himself resides in a rented one-bedroom apartment in Nairobi.
In an interview with SPM Buzz, Obinna expressed his belief that constructing a house in the village, especially when one spends the majority of their time in the city, is an ill-advised and imprudent financial move.
Obinna acknowledged that he had been among the pioneering comedians to build a house in his hometown. However, upon reflection, he now questions the wisdom of his choice.
He remarked, “I constructed my house some time ago. I believe I was one of the first comedians to do so. I built homes for both my parents and myself. Nevertheless, constructing a residence in the village may not be a wise investment decision. Most of the time, you’re not there. You’re investing millions, often more than ten million, and yet you don’t reside there.”
He further elaborated on his point, saying, “For example, I rarely sleep in my own house. When I visit Kisumu, I stay in a hotel and briefly visit my hometown just to ensure the property is well-maintained. During my visits home, I typically spend only a couple of nights there, as I’m primarily based in Nairobi.”
Nevertheless, Obinna clarified that he isn’t discouraging people from pursuing home ownership. Rather, he recommends that if one chooses to build a house, they should exercise discretion in investing a substantial amount of money in a location where they do not spend much of their time.
He emphasized, “I’m not saying people should refrain from building houses; by all means, go ahead. However, it might not be prudent to invest a substantial sum of money. If you have the means, that’s fine, but if you don’t, consider building a residence near your primary place of residence.”
Obinna also disclosed his own plans to acquire a house in Nairobi, with a budget of 30 million Kenyan shillings. Nevertheless, he indicated that, with significant financial resources, he might contemplate building or purchasing a property valued at 60 million shillings.
During the past weekend, Mulamwah shared with his fans the opulent mansion he has been constructing in his hometown of Kitale. He revealed that he has allocated over 10 million shillings to the project, and the construction is approximately 70% complete. Mulamwah also provided his followers with a glimpse of how the finished mansion will look once it’s ready.
