“Tunakanyanga Tu damu Huku”Salasya Calls for Cleansing at Parliament after Gen Z Killings

Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, has urged religious leaders to conduct a spiritual cleansing at the gates of the National Assembly. This comes nearly a year after the deadly protests on June 25, 2024, that saw nine people killed, including 25-year-old Erick Kyalo Mutisya.

Salasya, alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, emotionally recalled the heartbreaking scene of Mutisya’s body lying wrapped in the Kenyan flag at the Parliament gates, following the chaos. Mutisya, who worked at a butcher shop, was caught in the protests against President William Ruto’s administration and rising taxes. Reports indicate that police fired live rounds into the crowd, and Mutisya was fatally shot in the back. His body, soaked in blood, was left at the gates, symbolizing the nation’s pain.

“I cannot continue crossing over his blood daily. That moment has never left me, and it still pains me,” Salasya said. Despite the tragedy, Parliament has yet to address compensation or show sympathy for Mutisya’s family, which Salasya believes is a sign that justice is still needed.

Meanwhile, Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma, has called for compensation for all victims of the protests, emphasizing the importance of upholding integrity while exercising democratic rights.

In another shocking development, Kasipul MP, Charles Ong’ondo Were, was assassinated on April 30, 2025, along Ngong Road in Nairobi. He was shot just moments after leaving Parliament. His body has been taken to Lee Funeral Home as investigations continue.
