Technical University of Kenya fires over 350 workers ,lecturers over fake academic papers

The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has dismissed over 350 employees due to the discovery of fraudulent academic credentials.

The affected employees held various roles at TUK, including lecturer positions.

These dismissals followed an audit report that revealed the academic qualifications claimed by these workers were fake.

The audit, initiated in December 2023, involved thorough verification of documents with various institutions to confirm their authenticity.

According to a report in a local daily, the TUK chapter of the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has informed its members about the dismissals, which are effective from July 1, 2024.

“It has come to the attention of the union (from colleagues) of the above-captioned matter. Some members of staff have received letters from the university management notifying them of their intended removal from the payroll, effective July 1, 2024,” stated the chapter secretary, Fred Wanyonyi Sawenja, in a letter from the organization.

“This is to inform all the affected members to immediately share the details of their letters with the chapter office for advice on the way forward.”

“Given the varied reasons for the intended action by management, it is prudent that the union and its members take a collective, responsible, and reasonable approach to address the aforementioned letters.”
