A specialized unit has been established within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to closely monitor threats directed at bloggers across social media platforms. This development was revealed by Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki during his appearance before the Senate on Wednesday.
Kindiki elaborated that the investigative efforts now span across 19 counties, with particular emphasis on identifying groups responsible for online assaults and physical violence against individuals expressing differing viewpoints through digital channels. He highlighted ongoing investigations into various incidents and underscored the focus on apprehending those involved in the tragic demise of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard, alias Sniper.
In his assurance to the Senate, Kindiki pledged full accountability for all perpetrators involved in such offenses.
