Shaffie Weru Gives Update of His Sh21m Demand To Radio Africa After Being Sacked

Shaffie Weru, a renowned radio journalist, has provided an update on his legal case with Radio Africa. He is seeking a send-off package of Sh21 million after being fired from the company. Speaking on NTV’s trend show, Shaffie revealed that negotiations are ongoing with Radio Africa on how he will be compensated.

The court has recommended that the matter be resolved outside of court, and Shaffie’s lawyer has written to Radio Africa to begin the process. Shaffie spoke positively about the current General Manager, Martin Khafafa, with whom he worked for 17 years. He stated that they are currently engaged in conversations and that he is waiting for the compensation cheque.

Shaffie stated that once he receives the money, he will use it to pay off some of his debts that accumulated as a result of his termination. He acknowledged that the layoff had a significant impact on him and that there were times when he struggled financially. However, he expressed gratitude for the support he received from those around him, who provided him with jobs and encouraged him to find ways to make money.

Shaffie had been employed by Radio Africa for 18 years and was earning Sh 682, 500 per month. He is seeking compensation for unfair termination, including 12 months’ salary amounting to Sh8, 190, 000 and a gratuity of 12, 285, 000, which is equivalent to one month’s salary for each year of service.
