‘Sasa nipost ndege na sina’ – Mulamwah slams fans claiming he is acting poor to impress Kenyans

Kenyan comedian Mulamwah is currently facing criticism from certain sections of his fan base, who accuse him of sensationalizing poverty to gain attention. This controversy arose after the Milele FM presenter shared images and videos depicting himself and his partner, Ruth K, in a traditional mud house with two beds placed adjacent to each other.

The setting included an outdated television set on a weathered table, and sections of a speaker positioned on a yellow jerrycan, creating an atmosphere that suggested impoverished living conditions. These photos and the accompanying ‘house tour’ video were shared on various media platforms, including X media and Instagram.

In a caption for a video post, Mulamwah humorously stated, “Today we arrived home early because of hyenas. Just chilling, life in London! Cool kids can’t relate – full house tour of our multi-hundred Kitale villa on YouTube on my bestie’s channel.”

This sparked a wave of criticism from netizens who accused the comedian of feigning poverty to impress his Kenyan audience. One follower commented, “You seem to enjoy glorifying poverty,” to which Mulamwah responded defensively, “Sorry rich people, should I post about private jets even if I don’t have one?”

Another commenter advised Mulamwah to refrain from glorifying poverty and urged him to create content that reflects the ability of Luhya children to succeed in life without compromising their identity. The comedian retorted, “Feel sorry for the rich; we won’t spoil your Twitter with our poverty anymore.”

Interestingly, just two months prior to this controversy, Mulamwah had showcased the progress of his multi-million mansion under construction. In an Instagram post, he shared a video from the rooftop of the incomplete luxurious property, featuring himself and his partner. Mulamwah captioned the post with a motivational message, encouraging his followers to believe in their dreams and trust in themselves.

Furthermore, Mulamwah hinted at an upcoming YouTube project titled ‘Kejani with Mulamwah,’ aiming to uplift and motivate the youth. This recent controversy surrounding his portrayal of poverty has added a layer of complexity to the public perception of Mulamwah and his online presence.
