Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has recently attributed his questionable behavior to the influence of Satan, publicly acknowledging his struggles. As a first-time lawmaker elected on the Democratic Action Party – Kenya (DAP-K) ticket during the 2022 general elections, Salasya’s involvement in several physical altercations has raised concerns among constituents and the general public.
On Sunday, January 14, 2024, Salasya took to his social media account to express a heartfelt apology to the people of Mumias East and all Kenyans. In his statement, he acknowledged the impact of his recent actions, pledging to be more mindful of his behavior in the future. He specifically mentioned the need to control his anger and reactions, attributing his past actions to the influence of Satan.
Salasya’s public attention peaked during a funeral service in Kakamega County, where he reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli. The disagreement escalated, resulting in alleged gunshots fired by Salasya’s security detail. Fortunately, bystanders intervened and pulled Indimuli to safety. Subsequently, Salasya was arrested and released on police cash bail pending arraignment.
This incident followed another altercation in November 2023 when Salasya was involved in a fight with a group of alleged goons at an event attended by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa. The dispute arose when Salasya attempted to criticize the County Governor over the revival of Mumias Sugar Company.
Adding to his political woes, chaos erupted at a funeral ceremony in Kakamega County in May 2023, further tarnishing Salasya’s political reputation. These incidents have prompted Salasya to publicly acknowledge his shortcomings and express a commitment to better control his behavior in the future.
