Rachael Kabue: Nairobi Woman Who Spends Ksh280,000 Every Month Caring for her 386 Cats

While most Nairobi households keep one or two pets, Rachael Kabue from Mihang’o has taken animal care to a whole new level—she looks after 386 cats.

Rachael’s love for cats began in childhood, growing up in a family that valued compassion for animals. Over the years, her passion grew stronger, leading her to dedicate her life to rescuing and caring for abandoned and neglected cats.

Today, she spends about Ksh280,000 every month on food, medical care, and other supplies to ensure her furry companions live comfortably. Her mornings begin early with feeding, cleaning, and checking on the health of the cats—work that takes up most of her day.

Despite the challenges, Rachael has bonded with each of her cats, treating them as part of her extended family. She admits that while the cost and workload are overwhelming at times, the joy of seeing the animals happy and healthy keeps her motivated.

Her story has inspired many Kenyans, with some praising her sacrifice and love for animals. To Rachael, however, it is not just about keeping pets—it is about giving neglected animals a second chance at life.

Her remarkable devotion proves that passion and commitment can make a difference, no matter how impossible the task may seem.
