Authorities in Nyanza have initiated an investigation to locate the driver of an Easy Coach bus involved in a tragic incident near Kisumu.
The event unfolded along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway and resulted in the untimely death of a student from Chavakali Boys High School, who was en route to Nairobi for the April holidays.
At approximately 10 p.m., near Mamboleo at the Coptic Roundabout, the accident occurred. Reports indicate that the bus lost control while negotiating the roundabout, colliding with the guardrails and overturning.
Regrettably, one student lost their life, while several others sustained injuries, with two individuals in critical condition.
Easy Coach, the bus operator, expressed profound remorse over the incident and confirmed that the bus was transporting students from Chavakali High School. They disclosed that 22 students had been discharged from medical facilities, while three remained hospitalized for further medical attention.
Following the incident, the driver allegedly absconded from the scene, prompting authorities to launch a search operation for further inquiry. The company pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ascertain the cause of the accident and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Public outcry ensued, with criticism directed at Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for perceived inadequacies in preventing such tragedies.
The pursuit of the driver persists as authorities endeavor to uncover the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
