What started as a simple demonstration in Nairobi and Nyanza regions could have fast escalated into bigger demonstrations after other counties in the country on Wednesday, joined Azimio la Umoja’s protests.
Among the regions that have joined Raila’s demonstrations include counties from President William Ruto’s strongholds. The latest to heed to Raila Odinga’s call include Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Nyeri backyard.
The seemingly agitated residents of Nyeri took to the streets of Nyeri town on Wednesday protesting against the high cost of living. Angry residents could be seen carrying protests placards written “we are on protests until our grievances are heard”
They were also joined by matatu drivers who are also protesting against NASA’s announcement that all PSV drivers have to take refresher courses and dashboard cameras on their vehicles.
The peaceful protestors matched across the streets of Nyeri town without police interruptions even after police boss Koome banned the protests. Bus stations in Nyeri town were empty on Wednesday morning as matatus kept off the roads.
It is one of the demonstrations that has exposed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had been so vocal against Raila and his protests. Bomet town, one of President William Ruto’s backyards has also reportedly been hit by the protests.
Other areas that have been hit by today’s protests include Kisii town, Migori, Mombasa, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kitale and other major towns in the country.
