Controversial preacher Pastor Victor Kanyari has spoken out after facing harsh criticism from a section of Kenyans who accused him of trying to take over the funeral arrangements of his ex-wife, Betty Bayo.
Kanyari, who has been at the center of public scrutiny since the gospel singer’s passing, dismissed his critics, saying that people do not understand the pain he is going through. The preacher insisted that he has every right to mourn Betty since she was once his wife and the mother of his children.
“Mimi ndio najua chenye napitia, niacheni niomboleze plz. Betty was my first love, we spent so many years together, and we were very close. Hata kama ndoa yetu haikuwork, she is the mother of my kids and in that we are connected forever. Mimi naomboleza mama wa watoto wangu, mniache na amani,” said Pastor Kanyari.
Kanyari’s emotional statement comes amid mixed public reactions. Some Kenyans sympathized with him, saying he deserves space to grieve privately, while others accused him of trying to seek attention using the tragic loss.
Betty Bayo, a beloved gospel singer, was known for her powerful voice and inspiring songs that touched the hearts of many. Her death shocked the entertainment and gospel fraternity, with tributes pouring in from fans, friends, and fellow musicians across the country.
As funeral arrangements continue, Kanyari has urged the public to respect his mourning process and allow him to honor the mother of his children in peace.
