Residents of Lurambi, Kakamega County, were taken aback by the unexpected return of a man who had been missing for a staggering 17 years.
The community of Emukoyani, in the Butsotso district, celebrated joyfully when Boniface Moi Muyeshi, now 42 years old, made a surprise appearance.
“Back in 2006, he left his family behind to go to Nairobi, and we never saw him again,” one resident recounted to Citizen Digital.
A prayer session preceded a cleansing ceremony to mark the prodigal son’s reunion with his family.
However, his joy was short-lived as he was informed that his wife had given birth to a child with another man during his absence.
“We had suspected that he might have died during the 2007/2008 post-election skirmishes,” revealed his relative, Fredrick Witumbele.
The family welcomed him back in traditional fashion, performing a ceremony that included the slaughtering of a ram.
On the other hand, Muyeshi’s wife, Agripina Mulupi, shared her struggles in raising their three children alone during his long absence.
“I had to settle down with someone else as I couldn’t raise these children on my own,” Agripina admitted.
Nonetheless, she expressed her desire to start anew after her husband’s return.
“With my husband back, I had to send my current partner away, as he is now the head of the household again. We will discuss plans for co-parenting,” she added.
