Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to retire from politics, insisting that he will continue to seek office as long as Ugandans keep voting for him.
“As long as Ugandans continue to vote for me, I will continue to run because they trust me,” Museveni said, clarifying that widely circulated videos claiming he was preparing to step down had been edited.
“I haven’t said this is the last time I am vying. Those videos are misleading,” he added.
Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, has often faced criticism over his long stay in office. However, his latest remarks underline his intention to remain active in Uganda’s political scene for as long as the electorate supports him.
The statement is likely to reignite debate over leadership succession in Uganda, especially among younger generations eager for change.
