Authorities are currently in pursuit of a man involved in a tragic incident in Changamwe, Mombasa County, where he fatally stabbed his daughter during a domestic dispute.
The altercation ensued between the man and his wife, escalating until their daughter intervened in an attempt to diffuse the situation. Tragically, her intervention led to her father fatally stabbing her in the chest with a kitchen knife.
Diana Yumbya, 25 years old, succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at Bomu Hospital on Saturday, June 1. Police reports identify her father, Simon Mumbi, as the perpetrator.
According to witnesses, the dispute erupted over a solar rechargeable lamp during a power outage in the area. The suspect allegedly initiated the confrontation, wielding a knife and fatally injuring his daughter before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement officers visited the site of the incident and later confirmed the victim’s deep stab wound at the hospital. Her body was transferred to the Coast General Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
A kitchen knife with bloodstains was recovered as evidence by the police.
Investigators assure the public that they are diligently pursuing all leads to apprehend the suspect and charge him with murder.
