19Year Old Boy arrested for beating Traffic police officer in Nairobi

A driver has been arrested for attacking and seriously injuring a police officer at a roadblock in Kasarani on June 2, 2024.

Ian Njoroge was apprehended from a hideout in the Jacaranda area of Kayole on Monday night. His arrest was carried out by CRIB Detectives from Nairobi following the circulation of a viral video showing him assaulting a traffic officer on Kamiti Road in Kasarani.

Njoroge is currently being held at the Kasarani police station awaiting his arraignment in court.

The incident occurred while the officer was on duty along Kamiti Road at Mirema Junction at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. The officer noticed a vehicle making an illegal U-turn, obstructing other road users. As he approached the vehicle to address the violation, the driver hit the road kerb, causing the car to get stuck.

“Upon reaching opposite Quick Mart, the driver suddenly stopped and drew a sword from under the seat. The officer jumped out of the vehicle for his own safety, but the driver pursued him with blows and kicks. The officer fell into a trench, and in the process, the driver took his police pocket phone battery and fled with it,” read part of the police report.

Members of the public quickly intervened, rescuing the officer and taking him to Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre in Kasarani for first aid. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for further treatment.
