From singing SDA hymns in Ekegusii to engaging warmly with locals and hitting the campaign trail with her husband, it’s clear that Governor Simba Arati’s Chinese wife, Kwamboka, is embracing life in the heart of Abagusii culture.
Though Kwamboka typically leads a private life, the spotlight on her is inevitable, given her husband’s significant role in the community and his ambition to become the leading figure among the Abagusii.
The Governor
Simba Arati secured a resounding victory in the August 9 elections, becoming the Kisii Governor-elect with 270,928 votes, far surpassing his closest rival, Ezekiel Machogu of UDA, who garnered 82,104 votes.
Kwamboka, a mother of two, has occasionally joined her husband on the campaign trail. At a Kisii political rally, she captured attention by singing an SDA hymn with Arati, their mutual affection evident in their performance.
Arati first met Kwamboka while studying Business Management at Guangzhou University in China. During his quest for the gubernatorial seat, critics labeled him as ‘immature’ and questioned his choice of a foreign spouse. Despite this, he triumphed in the elections.
Arati is known for his deep commitment to his wife. He has publicly stated that he has never been unfaithful, expressing his disdain for those who might attempt to disrupt his marriage.
No Room for Distractions
Arati has made it clear that he does not entertain extramarital advances. “Handling one woman is already difficult, so why should I complicate matters with others? I don’t engage with slay queens or anyone who might bring trouble,” he has said. He adds that, as a public figure, it is crucial to avoid situations that could be used to undermine him.
