A father, Kakinda Bernard, a 39-year-old butcher residing in Lufuka Ndejje and working in Masajja, has been placed in Luzira maximum prison pending his next hearing in the coming year. This imprisonment is in connection with the alleged defilement of his two daughters, with one of them being impregnated.
Judge Ann Basemera Sarah from the Makindye Chief Magistrate Court ordered Kakinda’s remand until January 25th, where he is set to face charges of aggravated rape against minors. The charges have been officially registered under file number SD; 109/06/12/2023.
Kakinda’s arrest transpired following a report filed by his wife, Nalweyiso Shamira, aged 24, who sought justice against her husband. Shamira claimed to have witnessed her husband assaulting her stepdaughters on numerous occasions and, when she confronted him, she was subjected to physical abuse, silencing her attempts to seek intervention.
As the situation escalated, Nalweyiso reached out to the biological mothers of the affected children, who, in collaboration with the police, apprehended Kakinda. Initially taken into custody at Katwe police, he was later transported to the Makindye court.
The eldest daughter, a 13-year-old in primary seven, disclosed that her father began molesting her at the tender age of nine, shortly after her mother left Kakinda’s residence, leaving her behind. The abuse persisted, culminating in her pregnancy, which he forcibly terminated. Kakinda went to the extent of threatening her with harm if she ever dared to disclose the incidents to anyone.
