A disturbing revelation by a Kenyan university student has ignited heated debate online after she disclosed how a relationship with her lecturer allegedly led to her contracting HIV and AIDS.
Speaking on Betty Wahome’s platform, the student narrated that she often skipped classes and risked failing her course. When her lecturer noticed her poor attendance, he allegedly offered her a deal: he would help her pass if she agreed to an intimate relationship.
Desperate to avoid failure, she accepted. After submitting her assignments, she not only passed but also emerged top of the class. The lecturer went further and appointed her as class representative. Their relationship reportedly continued even after that.
Two months later, while on internship, the young woman began experiencing unusual symptoms. Upon seeking medical attention, she was diagnosed with HIV.
Shocked, she confronted the lecturer—whom she identified as the only person she had been intimate with in the past eight months. To her disbelief, he blocked her and cut off all communication.
The revelation has since sparked outrage online, with many condemning the abuse of power by lecturers in institutions of higher learning. Others have urged universities to take stricter measures against predatory behavior, while also calling for students to be vigilant and prioritize their health.
