Kasipul By-Election Intensifies as Farouk Kibet Endorses Boyd Were for ODM Ticket

President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, has officially endorsed Boyd Were, the son of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, as the ODM candidate for the upcoming Kasipul by-election. The endorsement took place on Friday, September 5, 2025, during a fundraiser at Ogande Girls High School in Homa Bay County.

Farouk described Boyd as a capable young leader and urged the community to support him. He emphasized, “This young man is enough to get the seat. Let him continue. The party is ODM, and we are all ODM.”

Boyd, who spoke at the event, expressed gratitude to Ida Odinga and Governor Gladys Wanga for their support of girls’ education and local development. He donated Ksh100,000 to the school’s fund drive and delivered greetings from the people of Kasipul. He stated, “The people of Kasipul have told me to invite our leaders to come and work with us. We are ready to build together.”

Boyd’s father, MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, was tragically killed on April 30, 2025, in what police described as a targeted attack. His untimely death left the Kasipul seat vacant and sparked a competitive race to fill it. At his father’s burial in May, Boyd promised to continue his legacy and stand firm for the people of Kasipul. He declared, “We are not afraid. My father was brave, and he didn’t raise a coward.”
