JKUAT Student Graduates After 7 Years Of Working in A Tea Plantation To Raise School Fees

In a remarkable demonstration of resolute determination, Naom Kemunto, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), has triumphantly completed her academic journey after navigating seven years of hard work in a tea plantation to fund her education.

This tenacious graduate embodies the spirit of perseverance, confronting significant financial challenges that compelled her to make a momentous decision—working on a tea plantation to generate the necessary funds for her school fees.

Her exceptional journey unfolds as a compelling narrative of resilience and the relentless pursuit of knowledge against formidable odds.

The graduate recounts that her story began with an unwavering commitment to education, surmounting financial hurdles that could have easily discouraged many. Over the course of seven years, the tea plantation ceased to be just a workplace; it transformed into a poignant symbol of dedication and sacrifice as she diligently worked to secure her place in academia.

“I labored on a tea plantation, working as a tea picker to finance my education, given my humble background,” Naom shared with Wakenyaleo.co.ke.

Hailing from Nyamira, Naom joined JKUAT in 2017 to pursue a degree in Food Science and Nutrition. Taking to her X account (formerly Twitter), she expressed her profound gratitude.

“Joined JKUAT in 2017 and left in 2023. Delay is not denial,” she wrote.

Naom is optimistic that the degree she has earned from JKUAT University will positively transform her life.

“I hope that with this degree, I will be able to change my story, as it has not been an easy ride,” she stated.
