Actress Jackie Matubia unveils that her upcoming web series, “Toxic,” takes inspiration from the fascination of Kenyan women with toxic relationships.
Scripted by the late actor Charles Ouda, the series is scheduled to debut on Matubia’s YouTube channel on the 17th of this month.
Additionally serving as the executive producer, Matubia will co-star with Mike Saruni, who will portray the main characters.
“Mike Saruni perfectly embodies this charming yet addictive character. It’s a cultural phenomenon in Kenya, where women are often drawn to charismatic yet toxic men. Charlie captured this essence flawlessly in his writing, and Mike Saruni seamlessly steps into that role,” Matubia explains.
Reflecting on Ouda’s involvement, Matubia confesses to initial uncertainty following his passing in February. However, she remained committed to bringing their shared vision to fruition.
“This project was our joint venture, and continuing it solo after Charlie’s passing was intimidating. But I persisted, fueled by the memory of our collaboration. Despite the obstacles, I persevered, knowing Charlie would have wanted me to,” Matubia reflects.
The bond between Ouda and Matubia had strengthened over the past year and a half, making his absence deeply felt.
