YouTuber and entrepreneur Robert Ndegwa, known as Thee Pluto, recently showcased his modest farm, Pluto Diaries, situated in Githunguri, a farming town in Kiambu County.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Thee Pluto highlighted his engagement in both beef and dairy farming, along with pig farming.
Pluto Diaries, located a few kilometers from Githunguri town in Kiambi County, is home to a variety of beef cattle, particularly Sahiwal and Boran breeds. Sahiwal cattle, originating from Punjab, Pakistan, and Boran cattle, a popular zebu beef breed in East African countries, form a significant part of his livestock.
Within the section dedicated to beef cattle, Thee Pluto has set up a feeding area and water troughs, ensuring a constant water supply. Despite Githunguri not being the optimal location for these cows, he explained that he chose the area to assess their adaptability to the local weather conditions.
Thee Pluto shared that he supplies meat to local butcheries once the cattle are ready for slaughter, inviting inquiries from those interested in purchasing beef.
To ensure the well-being of his beef cows, he feeds them a mixture of fattening feeds such as poland, fish meal, and dairy meal, in addition to green matter or silage.
Within a small makeshift house on the farm, Thee Pluto has installed a chaff cutter for grass cutting, along with storage for supplementary food and supplements. He emphasized the use of salt supplements for specific stages of cows’ lactation cycles.
In another section of the farm, Thee Pluto maintains a group of dairy cows primarily for milk production, with a separate area for pregnant cows and those milked daily. He opts for sawdust instead of mattresses in the cows’ sleeping area.
The third section of his farm is dedicated to pigs and their piglets. Thee Pluto mentioned a recent deal where he sold a portion of the pigs.
Additionally, Thee Pluto has constructed units for storing additional food for both beef and dairy cattle. He encourages visits to his farm, welcoming those interested in witnessing his agricultural practices.
