The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially announced the minimum academic requirements for students seeking placement in various post-secondary programs. This announcement, made on Monday, January 13, outlines the qualifications needed for applicants to join Artisan (Level 4), Craft (Level 5), Diploma (Level 6), and Degree programs.
According to KUCCPS, the application process for the 2024 cohort of KCSE students will soon begin. The online application portal will open for students who have received their results, allowing them to apply for courses through the KUCCPS system.
Students interested in applying are advised to stay informed about the official announcements regarding the application process. KUCCPS will notify the public through mass media, its website (www.kuccps.ac.ke), and social media platforms.
KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome clarified that students applying for degree programs must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+ and above. For Diploma (Level 6) courses, the minimum requirement is a KCSE mean grade of C– or higher. Artisan (Level 4) programs are open to students with a KCSE mean grade of E, while Craft (Level 5) programs require a mean grade of D and above.
Additionally, KUCCPS noted that certain programs may have additional subject requirements, which will be detailed on the KUCCPS portal once the application period opens. Students interested in degree placements will also be provided with weighted cluster points and cut-off scores to help them make informed course selections.
Regarding the 2024 KCSE performance, a total of 962,512 students sat for the exams, which concluded on November 22, 2024. Among them, 1,693 candidates achieved an A grade, and 246,391 students scored grades that qualified them for direct university entry (C+ and above), a significant increase compared to 201,133 students in 2023. Additionally, 7,743 students received an A-, 19,150 scored B+, 43,120 earned a B plain, 75,347 attained a B-, and 99,338 achieved a C+.
The results also revealed that 128,885 students scored a D+, 153,334 scored a D plain, and 151,487 earned a D-. A total of 434,333 students recorded the lowest mean grade of E.
