‘I will completely ban homecoming events for State officers’ -Roots party leader Wajackoyah

Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has criticized the tradition of holding homecoming ceremonies for newly appointed cabinet secretaries, calling them a misuse of public funds.

In a recent national television interview, Wajackoyah proposed a ban on such ceremonies, expressing disdain for the practice. “I intend to outlaw these homecoming events for individuals who have become cabinet secretaries, driving luxurious cars and claiming ‘our region has been blessed.’ Blessed by whom? Jehovah Wanyonyi or Yesu wa Tongaren?” he remarked.

Wajackoyah explained that he refrains from attending these ceremonies due to the questionable backgrounds and ongoing corruption cases of many of the appointees who have been cleared for their positions.

Additionally, Wajackoyah clarified that he has not formed a coalition with any political party, responding to queries about his potential involvement with Azimio. He did, however, express support for Raila Odinga, endorsing him as a strong candidate for the chairperson of the African Union Commission. Wajackoyah urged Odinga to focus on his AUC bid, emphasizing that the continent is looking to him for leadership.

Despite this, Wajackoyah avoided addressing whether President Ruto’s support for Raila’s AUC bid was a strategic move to undermine the opposition. He confirmed his intention to run for president in the 2027 elections and expressed indifference towards the activities of other political parties.

Furthermore, Wajackoyah criticized leaders who claim to advocate for Kenyan youth, or Gen Z, while actually opposing their interests. “Gen Z, be wary of such individuals. What you have accomplished is commendable; I won’t impose myself on you, but I will offer my support,” he stated.
