Pastor William Getumbe, hailing from Kisii County, recently faced widespread criticism online following the release of a track that a considerable number of Kenyans have denounced as blasphemous.
The controversial song, titled “Yesu Ninyandue,” incorporates the Kenyan slang “Ninyandue,” commonly understood to refer to intimate relations. Getumbe boldly transformed this term into a song with unconventional lyrics, leading to a public outcry.
In a candid interview, the pastor asserted that the song drew inspiration from the Bible and is intended as a pure gospel piece. He claimed it is rooted in the biblical account, specifically from the book of Luke, where he sought to delve into the conception of Jesus by Mary.
Explaining his perspective, Getumbe contended that the conventional understanding is that intimacy is a prerequisite for pregnancy. In his imaginative interpretation, he suggested an intimate encounter between Mary and the Holy Spirit, drawing parallels to his own desire to conceive similarly through divine means.
Getumbe highlighted a specific line from the song, “Yesu ninyandue kama Maria nipate mimba ya imani,” as encapsulating the essence of the track.
Acknowledging the controversial nature of the slang “Ninyandue” and the mature content of the song, Getumbe clarified that it is intended for audiences over 18 years old. Despite recognizing the potential moral concerns, he expressed a lack of control over the song’s listenership, emphasizing his gratitude for its viral spread. Additionally, he announced plans to release an official music video, stating his intention to continue producing more captivating tracks.
