In a recent court proceeding, a 49-year-old woman collapsed as the court officially dissolved her 21-year-long marriage due to childlessness. Both parties mutually agreed to end their marriage, with the wife requesting the court to approve the divorce.
The court, considering the agreement between the parties, had no choice but to grant the petitioner’s request for divorce, officially dissolving the marriage. The petitioner generously waived the K 25,000 bride price he had paid, and the court clarified that there was no need for the respondent to return it.
During the proceedings, the husband, facing retirement from civil service in nine years, expressed his exhaustion over the childless marriage. He explained to the court that despite his best efforts to have a child with his wife, all attempts had failed. He pleaded with the court to separate them.
In response, the woman shared her side of the story, revealing that she had fervently prayed and sought medical advice, yet remained childless. In a desperate attempt to salvage the marriage, she had even suggested to her husband that he impregnate a young woman and allow her to continue being his wife. However, her plea was met with his insistence on divorce.
The woman, overwhelmed by the situation and the impending divorce, emotionally addressed the court, saying, “My Lord, I have explored various avenues and tried different remedies, all to no avail. I had suggested to my husband that he father a child with another woman, allowing me to remain his wife, but he remained steadfast in seeking a divorce. Where do I go at my age?” she exclaimed before collapsing in court.
