‘I regret everything ‘: Former DP Gachagua Says Ruto misled him into misjudging Uhuru

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed deep regret over his fallout with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, blaming President William Ruto for driving a wedge between them.

Speaking during the Obinna Show, Gachagua said he once shared a strong bond with Uhuru between 2013 and 2017. He described their relationship as close and productive.

“Uhuru is my friend and brother. We achieved our goal of making him president. I regret allowing Ruto to come between us,” Gachagua said.

He revealed that Uhuru was the one who introduced him to Ruto. At the time, Gachagua supported Ruto’s 2022 bid for presidency, thinking it was fair. However, he now admits he misjudged the situation.

“I thought Uhuru was unfair to Ruto, but I was wrong. Uhuru was right,” he added.

Gachagua said Uhuru felt deeply betrayed after the 2022 elections. He now respects Uhuru as a leader and elder and often defends him from criticism.

As 2027 approaches, Gachagua said he is focused on correcting past mistakes. “That’s water under the bridge. I’m busy undoing those mistakes,” he said.
