How mobile money agent was robbed Ksh100,000 in plot orchestrated by her friend

Police officers in Bwebajja, central Uganda, have arrested two suspects involved in a robbery that took place on June 6, 2024, at approximately 11 pm.

The victim, Mbadiremu Maria, a 28-year-old mobile money dealer and shop owner, was attacked and robbed of approximately Ugx 3 million (KSh100,000) by a robber armed with a pistol.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was approached by Bugaya Edrine, a 20-year-old acquaintance who wanted to withdraw money. During the transaction, an armed robber attacked and stole the money from Maria.

Maria recognized the armed robber as a friend of Edrine. Suspecting foul play, she raised an alarm and contacted the police at Bwebajja Central Police Station, leading to a swift response from the authorities.

The investigation revealed that Edrine had conspired with Bahati Kisekka, the 27-year-old armed suspect, to commit the crime. Both suspects were arrested that night.

Police recovered several pieces of evidence, including an unmarked pistol without a magazine, Ugx 1.5 million (KSh50,000), a black jumper, a hood, face masks, and mobile phones containing incriminating messages.

These items were found at the premises of Nadia Excel Recruitment Ltd, rented by Aisha Nanyonga.

The pistol is believed to have been smuggled from South Sudan by Kisekka to support their criminal activities.

Territorial Police have urged the public to use the counter numbers at the nearest police station or post, which operates 24/7.

The suspects have been charged with possession of an illegal firearm, robbery, and related conspiracies.
