” Hatutishwi, Raila & Ruto Can’t Instill Fear In Us” Ichungwa Says After Ruto’s Threats On MPs

President William Ruto recently accused Members of Parliament of engaging in corruption and even threatened to take some of them to court over the matter. His remarks were echoed by Raila Odinga, with the two appearing to issue a joint warning to MPs.

However, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, a close ally of Ruto, has pushed back, insisting that no one—not even the President or Raila—can intimidate Parliament. He emphasized that Parliament is the most powerful institution in the country.

Ichung’wah explained that it is Parliament’s role to oversee the Executive, not the other way around, adding that MPs even have the power to impeach members of the Executive. While he acknowledged that the concerns raised by Ruto and Raila were valid, he cautioned against undermining Parliament or tarnishing the reputation of MPs. He maintained that lawmakers found guilty of corruption should face the full force of the law.
