Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has sparked lively debate after delivering a blunt message to Kenyans about their expectations of President William Ruto. Speaking during a public event, Passaris criticized citizens who, according to her, place unrealistic demands on the Head of State—expectations that she believes even God is supposed to handle.
Passaris argued that many Kenyans have developed a habit of blaming the President for every personal challenge, from economic hardship to individual misfortunes, instead of taking responsibility or seeking divine guidance. She noted that some of the things people expect Ruto to solve are beyond the scope of any government, no matter who is in power.
Her remarks quickly spread across social media, sparking heated reactions. Supporters praised her for speaking truthfully, saying Kenyans often demand miracles from leaders yet fail to put in the necessary effort. Critics, however, accused her of downplaying the government’s responsibility to address real issues such as unemployment, high living costs, and rising taxes.
Passaris maintained that while the government must deliver on its promises, citizens also have a role to play. She emphasized the importance of hard work, patience, and faith, reminding the public that leadership is not magic.
Her comments come at a time when frustrations are high among Kenyans grappling with tough economic conditions. Many citizens feel the government is not doing enough to cushion them from the rising cost of living, while leaders insist that recovery will take time.
Whether seen as a dose of truth or an insensitive remark, Passaris’ message has reignited the national conversation about leadership, personal responsibility, and the expectations citizens place on their elected officials.
