Neno Evangelism Centre founder, Pastor James Ng’ang’a, has once again left tongues wagging after he rejected and burned birthday gifts presented to him by female congregants, claiming they were channels of witchcraft.
The dramatic scene unfolded during a church service in Nairobi where faithfuls had gathered to celebrate their pastor’s birthday. Women walked to the altar with flowers, shopping bags, and neatly wrapped packages — but instead of receiving them with joy, Pastor Ng’ang’a furiously turned them down.
“Huo ni uchawi! Wachukue wachome. Sihitaji zawadi kutoka kwa wanawake,” he shouted, before instructing his aides to set the items ablaze outside the church compound.
The fiery preacher explained that not all gifts come with clean intentions, warning that some are traps meant to bring curses or weaken his ministry.
His move immediately divided opinion. Some faithfuls supported him, saying it was wise for a spiritual leader to be cautious, while others slammed the act as humiliating and disrespectful to women who gave out of sacrifice.
Pastor Ng’ang’a, famous for his bold statements and dramatic sermons, has never shied away from controversy. This latest incident only cements his reputation as one of Kenya’s most unpredictable preachers.
Despite the uproar, the service continued, with the pastor urging members to pray for him instead of bringing material presents.
