Dickson Ndiema, the Man Accused of Setting Fire to the Late Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei, Has Died in Eldoret Hospital

Dickson Ndiema, the individual accused of setting fire to the late Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei, has passed away at Eldoret Hospital. According to reports, Ndiema died on Monday, September 9, 2024, while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Ndiema’s death occurred just days after Cheptegei, who succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the same hospital. Cheptegei suffered severe burns covering more than 75 percent of her body after an alleged attack by Ndiema on September 3, 2024. Ndiema is said to have doused Cheptegei with petrol and set her alight at her home in Endebess, Trans-Nzoia County.

During the incident, Ndiema also sustained burns affecting over 30 percent of his body.

Reports suggest that the attack stemmed from a dispute over land on which Cheptegei’s home was built. The 33-year-old Olympian had purchased the property near the Ugandan border.

Cheptegei’s daughters are reported to have witnessed the violent assault.
