Police have rescued a 12-year-old school girl, Joy Emmanuel, from isolation i.e. solitary confinement of eight months.
The young lady was said to have been confined for the said period by her own relatives and guardian distinguished as Emmanuel Basey and the wife Esther at their rural home..
Joy was also said to be malnourished and starved by the said guardians.
The couple asserted that “she is mentally unstable” but were later proven otherwise by the police.
Police spokesman for the SokotoPolice Command, Sanusi Abubakar, said the young lady was saved on Thursday while the suspects were captured and detained at the Dadin Kowa police headquarters.
“They kept the girl in a cage at their compound and starved her of food for eight months.
“When our men broke the door of the cage, the girl was too frail to walk because she was emaciated.
“We met her in a very horrible situation, urinating and excreting inside the cage.
“The girl was taken to the specialist’s hospital for treatment,”it was reported
He said that both the person in question and the suspects would be handed over to the National Agency for charges human Trafficking and other Related Matters for further action.
