Political analyst and commentator Cosmo Choy has ridiculed the opposition’s 2027 election lineup, suggesting that it lacks serious contenders to challenge President William Ruto. Speaking during a recent discussion, Choy compared the opposition’s apparent frontrunner, Kalonzo Musyoka, to a watermelon — implying that the lineup is more of a joke than a serious threat.
“Nimeangalia lineup ya opposition nikacheka. Kama Kalonzo watermelon ndiye wanataka kuweka frontline, hapo hakuna haja ya Ruto kufanya campaign. Hapo ni mchezo tupu,” Cosmo Choy said.
According to Choy, the opposition seems disorganized and unprepared, making Ruto’s path to victory easier. He argued that their attempts to present a strong alternative to the president are superficial and unlikely to resonate with voters.
The commentator’s remarks have sparked laughter and debate across social media, with supporters of Ruto praising Choy’s blunt assessment, while opposition supporters dismissed it as political banter.
Choy’s statement underscores a wider narrative in Kenyan politics, where analysts frequently scrutinize the credibility and cohesion of opposition coalitions ahead of major elections. It also highlights the growing public expectation that political parties must present strong, capable leaders to genuinely challenge incumbents like President Ruto.
