President William Ruto has stated that he is not fixated on retaining power, saying it is ultimately up to Kenyans to decide his political future in the 2027 General Election.
“Sio lazima nikuwe president tena. Mimi nafanya mtihani yangu, wananchi watamark 2027, nikipita naendelea, nisipopita mimi naenda kulima, hakuna problem!” Ruto said.
In his remarks, the Head of State likened his leadership to sitting for an exam, explaining that citizens will be the ones to grade his performance when the time comes. He added that if he passes, he will continue serving, but if he does not, he is ready to return to farming without any hard feelings.
The statement has sparked reactions across the political divide, with supporters praising his confidence and critics saying voters will indeed evaluate his record on the economy, cost of living, and public services ahead of 2027.
