Amount of Money Swedish Government is Giving Out to Kenyan Immigrants to Leave Their Country

The Swedish government has announced a new initiative that offers financial incentives to Kenyan immigrants and others to voluntarily return to their home countries. This move is part of Sweden’s broader effort to manage the increasing migrant population and the challenges it brings to the country.

Starting in 2026, the program will provide financial assistance to Kenyans who choose to repatriate. Under the plan, each adult will receive up to Ksh 126,204, while children will be eligible for Ksh 62,600. The total amount for a family, however, will be capped at Ksh 504,816. This aid is intended to ease the transition and support migrants as they resettle in their countries of origin.

Currently, these payments are being offered to those who are willing to leave Sweden voluntarily.

Sweden’s Migration Minister, Johan Forssell, emphasized that this decision marks a significant shift in the country’s migration policy. “We are in the midst of a paradigm shift in our migration policy,” Forssell stated, highlighting the government’s efforts to address the strain on resources caused by the growing migrant population.

To further support the voluntary repatriation program, the Swedish government is allocating Ksh 4.3 million to assist unemployed migrants and those whose actions are seen as incompatible with Swedish societal norms. The ultimate aim is to reduce the pressure on Sweden’s social services, housing, and healthcare systems.
